IWSG: Beta Reader Wanted: YA Romance/Mystery Book

If you are insecure about your writing process, like most of us are, please join our IWSG here and become part of a wonderful community!

To offset my last two posts being a day late, I'm posting this a day early :-)

Hi everyone! I am almost done the first major round of edits that my editor suggested. I am self- publishing "Lane Changes" but did hire an editor to do a MS review (not a line by line). With the wonderful winter break from work, I finished my first round of editor-suggested edits!

I am having one beta reader read through it, again, as I make some minor changes. I would love another person's feedback as well. I have had a few friends who have asked to read it and I just can't give it to them for some reason. I'm also scared as to what they will say when this DOES come out. I want honest feedback from friends/family but I'm not sure how I'd take it if it was negative. Has anyone had this happen to them? (Kind of a double edged sword as I'm intent on publishing this but scared of the feedback from loved ones!)

So, I am interested in someone who likes YA Romance/Mystery or New Adult as this is where the series will's three books long for now, but the other two aren't ready for editing. I'm looking for someone who can give me feedback about the first book, "Lane Changes" and I'm looking for:
  • timeline consistencies
  • character development
  • holes/inconsistencies in plot
  • basic grammar/punctuation
  • overall thoughts of the book
  • help in constructing a blurb about this story
I would love to have it back within the month if possible. Right now, it's approximately 80K words.

If you are interested, reply back or email me! I can send you a sample to read and if it's not for you, no worries.

  1. It's fantastic you were about to get through those edits during the break. Good for you! I'd love to help (and normally would), but I'm debuting in both the YA and MG worlds this year and I'm up to my eyeballs in rounds of edits. I'm also trying to snuff out the second book in my MG series. Phew... I'm already exhausted. Best of luck finding someone, and here's to a fabulous 2016! Wishing you much success...

  2. Beta readers are awesome. I have the hardest time objectively seeing my work.

  3. Hope you find someone! It's hard finding someone you can trust

  4. I might be able to help you out. Mail me at mishagericke(AT)gmail(DOT)com. :-)
